Athens, Greece

If you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve, I’m sure you’re familiar with its many benefits…3x points on travel and restaurants, lounge access, points worth 1.5x on Chase’s travel portal, yada yada yada. It was a no brainer to recommend it to my mom to cover flights for our upcoming trip to Greece. I considered recommending the United credit cards, but booking through Chase would provide a lot more flexibility. Round trip to Europe on United would cost 60,000 points per person and availability can swing wildly. By using the Chase points on Chase’s travel portal, we still had the option to transfer to United if we wanted to, but we also had the ability to search all other airlines and potentially find itineraries for less than 60,000 points per person.

The Problem

For our trip to Greece, my mom will be flying to Athens from Boston and I will be flying from Chicago. For the return flights, we both will fly back to Boston. When looking for the best itineraries, I was easily able to pull up Boston to Athens round trip with outbound flights on Air Canada and inbound flights on Lufthansa. All I had to do was click “include itineraries with multiple airlines”.

Chase Travel Portal

This itinerary was perfect because my mom and I could both fly to Montreal (YUL) on Air Canada from our respective cities and then take the flight from Montreal to Athens (ATH) together. Next I did a multi-city search and was able to pull up ORD –> YUL –> ATH. However, return flights would only display for Air Canada!

Chase Travel Portal

For some reason, the “include itineraries with multiple airlines” box is not available for multi-city searches on Chase’s travel portal.

The Solution

Luckily, there is a very simple trick that will allow you to pull up multiple airlines when searching for multi-city itineraries. All you have to do is go back to the round trip or one way search screens and check the “include itineraries with multiple airlines” box.Chase Travel Portal

When you return to the multiple destination tab and run your search, you should now see the multiple airline itineraries.

Final Thoughts

The Chase portal is really clunky when trying to identify the best flight. When searching, I could sometimes find the right combination of flights but would search again later and not see the same results. Just make sure to check the “include itineraries with multiple airlines” box to avoid the same problems I encountered.
